UNIPORT students decomposing body found in lovers apartment

The deceased’s lover, identified as Collins, was arrested following the discovery of Nkang’s mutilated body in his apartment along NTA Road, Mgbuoba in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Nkang, a Biological Chemistry student, was reported missing four days ago. She was undergoing her Industrial Training attachment at a popular private hospital located in the D/Line axis of Port Harcourt, where she was last seen.

According to a source close to the victim, Nkang’s decomposing and mutilated remains were seen in her boyfriend’s apartment, whom she had visited after the close of work at the hospital four days ago.

The deceased concluded that the young lady was murdered by her lover for ritual purposes, as her breast, eyes and other sensitive parts of her body were mutilated.

“So he (the suspect) after committing the crime kept her body in his apartment for three days and just when he wanted to dispose her corpse in refuse dump, a vigilante group in the area accosted him, leading to his arrest,” the source was quoted as saying.

Many Nigerians have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to express their opinion about the incident, as they called for Nkang’s justice.

“The murder of Otuene Justina Nkang is as a result of a monster that we fed overtime in this society, fueled by social media. The glorification of materialism. The exaltation of fraud & other related crimes that bring about ill-gotten riches have been normalised. Justina wasn't the first & won't be the last.

“It is a vicious cycle that will continue for a long time until we start questioning people who become rich and condemning excessive glorification of wealth on social media. The guy who took this girl's life may have been influenced by these factors. Personally, I don't believe money rituals exists, but there are people out there who actually do and get deceived by organ harvesters. Things like this will keep happening unless we say Enough,” @SirDavidBent wrote.

“So sad the Yahoo boy had to take this University of Port harcourt girl babe’s (Justina) life. Look how cheerful and happy she was 💕✨,” another X user, @Nellboysn wrote.

Spokesperson for Rivers Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko disclosed that the state Commissioner of Police, Emeka Nwaonyi, will be addressing the press on the matter later today.
