Biography: John Malkovich has enjoyed a long and varied career but it was his role in the Oscar nominated film "Dangerous Liaisons" opposite Glenn Close and Michelle Pfeiffer in 1988 made him a household name.

Malkovich's career had begun in theater, though he soon moved into film. He was first nominated for an Best Supporting Actor Oscar for "Places in the Heart" (1984) alongside Sally field. He also appeared in Steven Spielberg's "Empire of the Sun" (1987), Bernardo Bertolucci's "The Sheltering Sky" (1990) and was nominated again for an Oscar for "In the Line of Fire" opposite Clint Eastwood (1993).

One of his most famous and mind-bending roles came in the Charlie Kaufman written film "Being John Malkovich" (1999) where John Cusack's character finds a portal to inside John Malkovich's head. More recent roles include playing a Harvey Weinstein-like character on stage in "Bitter Wheat" and Pope John Paul III in TV series "The New Pope" (2020)

As well as a actor Malkovich has also worked as a theater director, and created his own fashion line in 2002. In 2008 Malkovich was one of the many victims to lose money as part of Bernie Madoff's ponzi scheme.
