Jason Derulo will sit alongside Guy Sebastian, Rita Ora and Jessica Mauboy on “The Voice Australia” this year.
Derulo replaces Keith Urban who returned to the singing competition in 2021 when it moved from Channel 9 to Channel 7.
The Seven Network described Derulo as “the King of TikTok”, based on his 57 million followers. The performer has also sold more than 250 million singles worldwide and has his fifth studio album on the way, his first in eight years.
He said: “I’ve always loved “The Voice” and Australia happens to be one of my favourite places in the world. I can’t wait to hear all the amazing talent down under.”
Angus Ross, chief content officer of entertainment programming at Seven, added: “‘The Voice’ is one of the biggest entertainment brands globally and in Australia, and we are very excited to welcome one of the biggest stars in the world into the Seven family and to “The Voice Australia”.
“Jason is a sensational addition to our lineup of superstar coaches Jess, Rita and Guy, and we can’t wait to see who they turn their iconic red chairs for this season.”
“The Voice Australia” first aired in 2012, with Delta Goodrem, Joel Madden, Seal and Urban appearing as judges and coaches.
Since then, various local and international talent have sat in the red chairs, including Ricky Martin, Kylie Minogue, will.i.am, Benji Madden, Jessie J, Ronan Keating, Kelly Rowland, Boy George and Joe Jonas.
Channel 9 let go of the show in 2020, with rival Channel 7 then picking it up.
The Seven Network then claimed its relaunch was “the biggest launch of an entertainment property in 30 years”.
The Nine Network subsequently admitted it regretted letting the format go, but said ultimately it was the right decision.
“The Voice Australia” is an ITV Studios Australia production.
