Biography: Don Mattingly was an outstanding first baseman who spent his entire major league baseball playing career with the New York Yankees (1982-95).

He was a 6-time All-Star (1984–89); AL MVP (1985); 9-time Gold Glove Award winner (1985–89, 1991–94), 3-time Silver Slugger Award winner (1985–87); AL batting champion (1984); and AL RBI leader (1985).

Mattingly served as captain of the Yankees (1991-95), when he retired as a player. The club later retired his uniform number (23), making him the only Yankee to have his number retired without having won a World Series with the team.

Post playing Mattingly has developed into a well respected manager, firstly with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2011-15) and currently with the Miami Marlins (2016-present).
