Under his leadership, New Life is reaching out to the outcasts and forgotten in our society — the homeless, women suffering with addiction and prostitution, and young people in gangs.
It’s been 115 years since the fateful morning — April 30, 1900 — when railroad engineer John Luther Jones, called “Casey” after his hometown of Cayce, Ky., agreed to drive an extra midnight run between New Orleans and Chicago.
Anyone who’s heard the classic American song “The Ballad of Casey Jones” knows what happened next: Before dawn, near Vaughn, Miss., the train was flying down the track, trying to make up for lost time.

While Lacks’s story was unknown at the time of her death, it came to public prominence in 2010 with the publication of Skloot’s book.

Now, at last, Scarlett’s petty-paced tomorrow is about to dawn—in a new novel and movie. Hollywood Producers Richard Zanuck and David Brown have won the right to produce a movie sequel to Margaret Mitchell’s classic tale of the Old South, Gone With the Wind.
Getty Images I’ve noticed quite a few comments both in Navy Times and on Facebook’s Female Navy Officers page about uniform changes. As usual, many are complaining about them.
I do recall when I was in the Navy, uniform changes came about every few years, with no rhyme or reason, and then a few years later, they were changed again. I wonder if it is a ploy to keep the uniform manufacturers in business, because there certainly does not seem to be any operational reasons for the changes.
As the second wife of King Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn was one of the most powerful women in the world in the 16th century. In fact, Henry’s desire to annul his first marriage to Katherine of Aragon so he could pursue Anne is widely credited as a key factor leading to England’s astounding break with the Roman Catholic Church in 1533. Even so, her peers at the Tudor court didn’t hold back when it came to their ideas about her.
