Biography: Carl Maria von Weber was a German composer, known as one of the first to achieve significance in the Romantic era. His operas are his best known work, and he contributed substantially to the development of German Romantic opera as a movement.

While Weber also wrote symphonies and a viola concerto, among other works, he was mostly known for his operas, including Silvana (1810), Abu Hassan (1811), Der Freischütz (1821), and Oberon (1826). These works were to significantly influence the future of opera in Germany, including Heinrich Marschner and Richard Wagner.
